The best time to visit is during the dry season, from November to April, when you can expect calm seas and plenty of sunshine.

Every island offers something special, but popular choices include Malé Atoll for convenience, Baa Atoll for marine life and Ari Atoll for luxury and diving.

Australian passport holders receive a free 30-day visa on arrival, just make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from the return date. Stay up to date on travel requirements with Smartraveller and Sherpa.

The Maldives uses the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but US Dollars are widely accepted at resorts and tourist areas.
