Tasmania FAQs
The best time to visit is during summer (December to February) for warm weather and outdoor adventures or autumn (March to May) when the landscapes transform with stunning colours and fewer crowds.
Top beaches include Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park, Bay of Fires on the east coast, Boat Harbour Beach in the north-west and Adventure Bay on Bruny Island – all known for their pristine sands and clear waters.
The best way to explore is by car or campervan, giving you the freedom to discover the island’s diverse regions. Tasmania also offers guided tours, coach services and domestic flights between major towns.
Take a 20-minute car ferry from Kettering, about a 40-minute drive south of Hobart. Ferries run daily, and you can bring your vehicle across to explore the island’s beaches, wineries and wildlife at your own pace.
Cradle Mountain is spectacular year-round. Visit in summer (December to February) for hiking and wildflowers or in winter (June to August) to see snow-dusted peaks and cosy alpine lodges.
