Our ride begins by exploring the hidden passageways and winding alleyways of Hoi An, stopping to photograph the iconic Japanese bridge. Continue and cross the canal bridge to visit a local family, and learn how to make ‘banh dap’ using the traditional method. These small savoury rice flour bowls are a common breakfast staple in the countryside. Continue and ride to one of Hoi An’s most beautiful villages, stopping at a local family’s home to learn about the tradition of family chapels. Your host is nearly 90 years old and fought in the Vietnam-American War.
Next, we pedal past rice fields and vegetable farms along small canals and waterways towards a boat building site. Fishing is still the lifeblood of the province and the construction of these boat-works is quite amazing to witness and photograph. The roads narrow again to concrete paths and our final stops include a traditional mat weaving shop and a family distillery, where rice wine has been produced in the same manner for generations. If the timing is right, you’ll also have an opportunity to see families gathering to clean the fishing nets between journeys at sea. It’s a short ride from here to where we board a local ferry for the trip back to town. Once dockside, take a 5-minute ride through alleyways back to the meeting point.

Set off on a culinary adventure in Hoi An to discover the flavors and dishes that make this coastal town unique. Alongside an expert local guide, your journey introduces you to the stories behind Hoi An’s most iconic dishes at the town’s most famous eateries.
Start your tour with a ‘banh mi’ (sandwich), at Madam Khanh’s – the best fusion between French and Vietnamese cuisine.
Then, try out the famous delicate white rose dumplings, found exclusively in Hoi An. Enjoy these delicacies while marveling at the work that goes into them. The staff churns out up to 6000 of these dumplings every day, and each one is as beautiful as the one before. Your visit here includes a chance to try making a few of your own dumplings, too!
Next, experience the famous ‘banh xeo Hoi An’, which is a cousin of the Saigon crêpe, but smaller (and perhaps even tastier). Here you will also have the opportunity to try cao lau, one of the most refined soups in Vietnam: pork and greens on a bed of rice noodles, made from rice which has been soaked in lye water.
Down a nearby alley, head onward to visit a 250-year-old ancient house. This is your chance to step inside a traditional Hoi An home and see how the locals live (and eat, if you are lucky enough to visit during their dinner time)!
Stroll around the house, spending time with the host to learn about his life. Before moving onwards, visit his workshop, where his skillful hands spend hours creating sophisticated and creative silver jewelry.
Finally, rap up your tour with a sweet note with a local specialty, green bean cake, and enjoy a local Vietnamese coffee – the perfect ending to any meal.
